A town and a business and cultural centre of region. The king Jan Lucembursky proved and extended municipal warrants which become the base of town liberty. At that period of the king Jan Lucembursky the origin of local festival called “Barchan” is dated as well. According to a legend the king should have gone to a war against Hungary in 1312. But he left his pregnant wife Eliska in Jenice and sent her news from that campaign through messengers. In commemoration of this event every year in June the festival is hold here when four runners run from the town border with gifts (a cloth, scarf, stockings or a wreath).
